Artist’s Statement

“The Wedding of Mnemosyne and Zeus depicts the nuptials of Mnemosyne, the mother of memory, and Zeus, the awakener.  Mnemosyne uses the structures of narrative, epic, song and myth to preserve remembrance.  She loves repetition, rhyme, rhythms and imagery.  She is the voice of an oral culture, a feminine voice, a soul voice.  Her voice sounds in the night as a dream or in a flash of insight, or a whisper in the ear.

Zeus, the father of creative awakening, seeds his bride with leadership, justice, science, and charisma.  Together Mnemosyne and Zeus are the mother and father of the Muses who become the sources of all culture through astronomy, music, poetry, comedy and tragedy of theatre and dance.”
