Want to join the birthday celebration?
For Sophia’s birthday, September 14th,
let’s celebrate friends, art, and the movement of time!
Jump Time for Hermes
“In Greek mythology, Hermes is both the messenger of the gods and the guide to the underworld. He is therefore the one who brings together radically different cultures – gods and humans. . . . [H]e transmits messages from the unconscious to the conscious . . . He is also the god of KAIROS, the loaded time when change and transformation can happen. Hermes brings the windfall, the unexpected but fortunate happening at the right moment. He is associated with movement, action, and the wind or element of air. With his intuitive intelligence, Hermes is the communicator, the charmer, the patron of travelers, the magician of games of chance.” Excerpt from Jean Houston’s book, Jump Time.
Sophia was spurred on in her artistic development by four famed art instructors who became dear friends. They are smiling on the success of Sophia’s debut as seen in this photo from the 1999 Meridian Gallery Art Show. From left to right are Luis Gutierrez, Harry and Lynn Powers, and Gay Schy.
Sophia found a rich artistic and technical support from each of these individuals, as well as, a spiritual support that inspired her to have the courage to create paintings such as, “Jump Time for Hermes.”
